On March 9th, students from 2010 International Accounting 2 had a special day, following the examples of Comrade Lei Feng.

Born in 1940, Lei Feng was a soldier of the People's Liberation Army in the People's Republic of China. Portrayed as a model citizen, Lei was praised as the personification of altruism, and the masses were encouraged to emulate his selflessness, modesty, and devotion. Presently, Lei Feng remained a cultural icon representing earnestness and service. 5th of March has become the official "Learning from Lei Feng Day", which reminds people of this treasured Chinese spirit.

Called upon by the International School, students from 2010 International Accounting 2 decided to do something special. Integrating the characteristics of International School with the Lei Feng spirit, they worked out three ideas and moved at once in groups.

Group 1 went to Nanchang city, looking for mistakes in English translation, which are quite common and will be misleading, especially to children and foreign friends. Tough as it was to work on a rainy day, the pride of helping people spurred them on.

The task of group 2 was to visit the Research Centre of Porcelain Painting. Porcelain painting is peculiar to Jiangxi, and is included in state-level intangible cultural heritage. But with less people knowing and learning this traditional skill, it is in an endangered state of no heir. Students of group 2 were shown the works of art and were explained the long and complex process of completing a work. Having talked with relevant staff, they provided some suggestions on how to involve college students in the protection of porcelain painting. They promised to cooperate fully with the research centre to promote the cultural treasure.

Knowing that many International friends in our school are new comers here, group 3 offered to present those friends with hand-painted maps of our school, to help them get familiar with the surroundings. The maps also gave introduction of some famous restaurants, shopping malls and places of recreation, so that the foreign friends could enjoy their life like locals. “It is quite happy to help people. We will draw more maps and present them to the International students coming next semester”, said the students.
